Muscle Stimulation (Russian Current or Functional Needling)

Muscle stimulation at C.A.R.E. physiotherapy can be offered in two different ways. The first is via electrode pads attached to the skin. Weak electrical currents activate the targeted weak muscles and facilitate exercises for strengthening. The other method is via the use of an acupuncture needle, this method is also called functional needling. In functional needling, the acupuncture needle is inserted into the knots of the muscle which is then stimulated with a battery powered device. The idea is to help reduce pain and improve strength and mobility with this procedure for improved function of the body.
