Pulsed Radio Frequency Modulation (PRF)

Pulsed Radio Frequency Modulation is a device which uses electrical impulses to help treat neuropathic pain. Neuropathic pain is pain caused by prolonged irritation of the nervous system. Nerves that are exposed to noxious stimuli for an extended period of time become even more sensitive and may gradually start to react to even non painful sensations. Now what used to be a menial task such as walking, sitting or standing may be perceived as painful by the nervous system. The PRF machine at C.A.R.E. physiotherapy, called the NMS460, uses electrical impulses as described to help reset these irritated nerves. During the treatment, multiple parts of the hypersensitive nerve are stimulated thereby reducing the sensitivity of the nerve, and decreases pain. During the treatment, you may feel some pain free twitches.

PRF may be used to treat:

  • Pain, numbness, and/or tingling down the neck, shoulder, arm, and/or hand.
  • Sciatica
  • TMJ pain, facial numbness, facial neuralgia
  • Bell’s palsy
  • Diabetic neuropathy
  • Pain originating from the spine
